AirAsia plan Calcutta to Phuket direct flights
Thai AirAsia announced yesterday plans to start a direct flight from Calcutta to Phuket.
“We plan to start direct flights to Phuket from Calcutta by the middle of next year,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO, Thai AirAsia, who was in the city to inaugurate the airline’s office in Calcutta. “A direct flight will save time and reduce flying cost,” said Bijleveld.
Thai AirAsia launched its Calcutta-Bangkok daily flights on December 1 last year. The airline conducted a survey, which showed that 45 per cent of its passengers from Calcutta flew to Phuket. “This shows the destination’s popularity,” Bijleveld said.
Anil Punjabi, chairman, east, Travel Agents Federation of India, said 2,00,000 tourists visit Thailand each year from this part of the country while 75,000 visit Goa every year.
