Phuket to hold food offering to Buddhist monks on Songkran Day

March 24, 2010

Since the April 13th of every year is the Thai traditional New Year’s Day, Phuket City Municipality (PCM) led by Somjai Suwansupapana, Phuket City Mayor, is preparing to hold food offerings to 100 Buddhist monks and nuns on the day. The event will start at 7.00 a.m. at the central stage in Sapan Hin Park.  Then at 8.00 a.m., the Governor of Phuket will sprinkle water onto a Buddha image after Phuket government officers and residents pour water on the hands of the governor, vice governors of Phuket plus elders and ask for blessings.

Somjai said that cultural conservation was one of the main missions of PCM so she would like to invite Phuket people to join the event to carry on the unique culture of the Thai Songkarn Festival.
