October 22, 2010

The 2010 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta will have unprecedented coverage on television, telecommunications and online media thanks to a deal with Sail.TV. The United Kingdom based sports production and broadcasting company will cover the pinnacle of the Asian Sailing Calendar as the action happens, allowing enthusiasts all over the world to follow the action race-by-race.

Sail.TV made its mark on the sailing world with its much talked about 2007 live coverage of the 32nd America’s Cup from Valencia. Mark David CEO, iSports Limited, and owner of Sail.TV, is looking forward to providing a similar service for the 2010 King’s Cup.

‘We are delighted to be part of Asia’s most popular regatta. Sail.TV can be seen around the world on a variety of different media and locations, from mobiles to yacht club TV’s to many different websites that carry the Sail.TV player. We are looking forward to doing our part in increasing the exposure of this great event to the worldwide sailing fraternity,” he said.

Sail TV is the first and most comprehensive TV centric website dedicated to the sport of sailing. Sail.TV has been broadcasting since January 2006 and has televised countless sailing events, interviews, boat features and regattas. In 2007 Sail.TV was entrusted with the task of broadcasting the 32nd America’s Cup live from Valencia and the company will be offering a similar service to anyone interested in following the 2010 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta.

Sail.TV’s online technology ensures accurate analytics on viewers, including pertinent data such as who is watching, when they are watching and where they are from, and even their individual interests. This helps ensure event sponsors will receive accurate return on investment measurements.

Duncan Worthington, Media and Communications Director is excited about Sail.TV’s coverage of this year’s event.

‘I have long thought that the annual Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is a major yachting event that deserves widespread global coverage incorporating the latest technologies with more traditional broadcast media. For those unable to see the racing first hand the coverage provided by Sail.TV’s expert team will not only extend the regatta’s audience, it will also add a new dimension of enjoyment. I am delighted to be able to welcome Sail.TV aboard,” he said.

Sail.TV’s broadcast coverage complements the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta’s global and regional media exposure, which has in recent years been broadcasted world wide via CNN MainSail, ESPN-Star Sports and Watersports World, to name but a few. In 2009, global publicity exposure of the regatta was worth millions of dollars.

The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta which runs from December 4th – 11th 2010 is now in its 24th year and is celebrated both for its great sailing competition and lively onshore social gatherings. Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has since been held every successive year during the first week of December.

With the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, the Regatta is organised by the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.
