Pattaya awaits LPGA event

January 11, 2012

All but one of the LPGA’s top 60 players have confirmed that they will compete in next month’s Honda LPGA Thailand in Pattaya, organisers said yesterday.

The US$1.5 million tournament features the top 60 on the LPGA Tour money list and 10 sponsor invites.

The participants include defending champion Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie.

American-Thai Stacy Prammanasudh, who is No.59 on the money list, is unavailable because she is pregnant. Her place will go to No.61 Julieta Granada.

One of the sponsor invites is teenage prodigy Alexis ‘Lexi’ Thompson who will make her Pattaya debut. The other nine berths will be finalised before the Feb 16-19 event at Siam Country Club.

As for local players, Pornanong Phatlum has qualified for the sixth Honda event thanks to her position on the money list.

Junthima Gulyanamitta, who won the 2011 LPGA qualifying tournament and amateur sisters Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn are expected to receive invitations.

The Honda event has been a popular tournament on the LPGA Tour. Last year’s tournament was won by Tseng who enjoyed a five-stroke victory.
