All set for Phuket Chinese New Year celebrations

January 30, 2014

Traditional celebrations of the Chinese New Year will take place tomorrow (January 31) at the Sanaam Chai playing fields in Phuket Town, starting at 4pm and featuring dancing and music.

There will also be a appearance by acrobats from Hunan in China, who will perform nine chapters of A Chinese Fairy Tale.

The finale will be live performances by R&B and pop artist Ae Jiragorn and hip-hop band 3.2.1.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday to announce the event, Paiboon Upatising, President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (OrBorJor), which is staging the event for the fourth year, said, “Phuket is the second-top destination for Chinese tourists coming to Thailand.

“So Chinese New Year is the most important traditional holiday for us to display our Thai-Chinese culture.

In addition to the stage show, he said, “There will be more than 60 food and souvenir stalls and the OrBorJor Hospital will offer free health check-ups.”
