Days added to Asian Beach Games in Phuket
Officials have extended the duration of the 4th Asian Beach Games, a tournament that will take place in Phuket this November, by five days as a countdown clock gets ready to begin on April 28.
The competition will be held from November 11-23 and features 26 sports with 168 gold medals on the line for athletes from across Asia.
The 200-day countdown clock will be launched on Monday (April 28) with a ceremony that will be presided over by Yu Zaiqing, vice-president of the Olympic Council of Asia.
Thai officials believe that the high-level of competition at the 4th Asian Beach Games will give a boost to the nation’s economy and tourism.
“Sports have something to do with the economy,” said Sangiven Boonto, deputy governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, “but to make the tournament more interesting, it must be competitive. The success of our athletes is also important.”
The event will include air sports, beach volleyball, bodybuilding, sailing, windsurfing, beach wrestling, sambo, jiu-jitsu, beach soccer, muay thai, triathlons, and extreme sports among others.
