English Premier League Legends Arrive in Phuket
The players included, Robbie Fowler (Liverpool, 2002 FIFA World Cup); Lee Sharpe (Manchester United); Louis Saha (Manchester United, 2006 FIFA Wold Cup, 2009 FA Cup) and EPL Legends team front man Paul Parker (Manchester United, 1990 World Cup).
They mingled with staff at the Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa for photos and autograph signing before taking part in a press conference to announce the final line up of Thai and ex-premier league players, for the Thai Legends versus EPL Legends match to be held on Sunday August 10 at Surakul Stadium in Phuket.
Welcoming the EPL Legends were Emerald Phuket Development Managing Director, Sawit Ketroj; Masters Football Asia CEO Steve Black; and Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand (Phuket), Virat Phatee.
Asked about their thoughts on the upcoming match, Paul Parker said the team was looking forward to the challenge of playing against some of Thailand’s top players.
“I’ve been involved in a few games against Thai teams. On one occasion they actually won a six-a-side tournament in Bangkok so a few of us here know how good they are individually and collectively,” said Parker.
This being the first 11-a-side match makes it “unique and a bit different”, he said.
“It’s great that the Masters Football tournament brings together players from not only Manchester United and Liverpool but top players from other English premier league teams” he said.
Sports Authority of Thailand (Phuket) director Virat Phatee welcomed the players and the opportunity for Phuket to host a world-class match between Thai legends and English Premier League legends.
The Thai Legends versus EPL Legends match is scheduled to kick off at 6.15pm on Sunday (August 10). Gates open at 4.30pm. Tickets are priced 200, 300 and 1,000 baht and are available at McDonald’s; Tiny Coffee and Tiny Mart outlets and online at phuketticketmaster.com, as well as at Surakul Stadium on match day.
