Pattaya welcomes new Women’s Challenger event

October 27, 2014

The first edition of the FIVB Pattaya Thailand Challenger women’s international beach volleyball tournament has attracted over 40 entries from 20 countries.  It will be the first time in 10 years that Pattaya has hosted an FIVB international beach volleyball event.  The tournament will be staged off Pattaya Beach Road, adjacent to Soi 6 from 5–9 November. Admission is free throughout the tournament.

Over 40 teams from 21 countries have entered including; Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, USA and Vanuatu.  Germany and Italy have both entered 5 teams, whilst the Czech Republic, Japan, Thailand and the USA have entered 4 teams each.

Supporting the main event are a number of activities including a large sponsor activity zone featuring sponsor booths, a beer garden and games and competitions for beach volleyball fans.

The event means beach volleyball in Thailand is back on the FIVB calendar, following successful Open tournaments in Phuket and Bangsaen in previous years. The Challenger is a key part of a long term agreement which has seen the promoter confirmed for four years for a Women’s Open.

The Qualification Tournament, which will be completed on November 5, will see 16 women’s teams compete for four places in the Main Draw, where they will join 24 teams from November 6-9.
